We ARE the NY tech community, and we've formed the NY Tech Meetup to help each other. Paid for by us (the $5 y'all pay at the door), the VC firm of DFJ Gotham, and the law firm of Wilson Sonsini.

Please - no more Amazon services pitching...this was an amateur "MBA" trying to sell business services to folks in the room by reading out a list of the Top 500 buzzwords in business. If I wanted that, I would've gone to a Harvard Business School meetup.
While I like the fact that there are folks pitching their services, it would be much easier to say it at the beginning and keep it simple and not insult my intelligence.July 11, 2007

I haven't been for a while (6 months) and had seen the events grow so large that the fun intimate feeling was being eroded. However, this event seemed to be a return to the fun, interesting, clever and quirky.
1. HitTail, Mike Levin - very useful.
2. Confabb, Jason Rozenblat - very interesting
3. Diet Television, Ken Seiff - nice to see this being tried.
4. UpNext, Danny Moon - wow! Is that really possible.
5. Parkwhiz, Jon Thornton - love it but I don't want more cars in Manhattan.
6. Amazon (EC2& S3), Jinesh Varia - yeah, yeah, yeah. Please don't pitch us, it is boring. Entertain us.

Fantastic start-ups presented, much better than the last one I attended.
Improvements: 1. Advertisers like Amazon should NOT be permitted to present in the future. 2. Developers/programmers/CTOs should wear different color badge, so interested CEOs/entrepreneurs can identify them. 3. Generally, interactive should be bit more formal/structured.July 11, 2007

Two HUGE pieces of advice!
1) Presenters, guests -- EVERYONE has to SPEAK INTO THE MICROPHONE! AT ALL TIMES! Just because your presentation is over does not mean that you can do the Q&A portion without a microphone! No one past the first 10 rows can hear if the microphone is not used.2) Also, when it comes to Q&A time, the presenter (or someone) should REPEAT the question that was asked (again, into the microphone) for the benefit of those who could not hear the original question.

What an amazing set of technologies we explored together! This is one of the greatest meetups I've ever attended. Everybody's products were SO interesting, and Scott is GREAT at keeping the meeting running at a pretty good pace and ensuring the presenters are asked some challenging questions. Fantastic content, if it wasn't so far away from me I'd be there every chance I got!

I would hope there is a better way to make people introduce themselves. Also one would hope for more transparency in terms of how one gets to present. There were a few presentations that seemed like they were not necessarily of importance but possibly riding the HYPE Cycle.
