I am looking for someone to replace Verizon as my Internet provider. Their customer service is horrible. However, after calling Time Warner and waiting 30 minutes just to find out that my building would cost $600 a floor to install their lines (that I would have to pay for) I am at a lost. How do monopolies like this exist?!?!? Does anyone have any suggestions about a reliable service for a medium size business? Or how to get around these big companies that just bully us around?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

What exactly are you looking for? When you say "600 a floor", what lines are you talking about? Also, how many people do you have roughly and what kind of usage will it see?

First, one needs to be careful, because when dealing with another vendor (other than a cable company) the local loop is frequently handled by Verizon even though they aren't your provider. If you think their service is bad when you are their customer, you should see it when you are a customer once removed.

The price of a T1 line has come down over the years, although it's still in the $300/month range. There are wireless services available (not from the cell phone companies; I believe those are still not quite ready for business use) but they often depend on things like having a line of sight to an antenna somewhere, having roof rights, etc.
