Hi Everyone,

Excuse my ignorance. Say you developed a cell phone software, how do you go about distribution among Wireless Providers (AT&T, Verizon etc.). Do you need to form a partnership with each one? Do you need to pay a fee?

Can someone give me some color regarding this?

Thanks,
DM

It varies quite a bit, depending on the o/s the phone is using, etc. What kind of software? Running where (as in Palm O/S, Java, or (one hopes not) windows CE).

Each carrier has their own certification process for apps on the deck. Depending on the carrier and platform (J2ME, Brew, etc), it can be challenging. Independent platforms like WM5/WM6/PalmOS are usually easier and sometimes do not require certification, but you can be restricted from using certain parts of the OS and things like the AGPS.

I would check some of the tech forums around each carrier. I know of developer.sprint.com for the Sprint stuff but it has been years since I've done any of this.
